Your mental wellness is just as important as your physical health, and that is where our counselling team comes in.

Our Registered Clinical Counsellor, Lucinda Flavelle, is an IFS therapist (Internal Family Systems) with an additional specialization in attachment-based parent coaching. She works with individuals, including teens, couples, and parents.

IFS is a parts-based therapy. IFS holds that ALL parts have a positive intention for us, even when they are causing us problems. Rather than trying to defeat, repress, ignore, or fight with these parts, befriending them causes them to relax. When parts relax, we are not taken over by them and have many more choices about how to respond.

Lucinda uses an IFS-based approach to couples therapy called Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO). It is dramatically different from other couples approaches. Read more about how parts show up in couple relationships. IFIO helps couples experience more intimacy, love, and compassion for each other.

Lucinda’s approach to parent coaching is based on the work of Dr. Gordon Neufeld and Hand in Hand Parenting and focuses on the emotional roots of misbehaviour in children. All children at their core want to behave but they get taken over by emotional difficulties. When parents understand their children’s development and attachment needs, it creates the conditions for kids to grow, mature, and thrive.

Christina Sutter, our Registered Provisional Psychologist, utilizes a holistic multimedia approach using emotion focused therapy and reality therapy. The emotion focused approach works to identify emotions that contribute to our thoughts and behaviours and how to better process, understand and utilize our emotions. Reality therapy provides a way to put that emotional processing into actions in our day to day life allowing for healthier changes that are within our control. Using a combination of these two therapies helps our understanding of past and present emotions and experiences that impact us and how to actively make changes in the here and now.
