Do you ever feel overwhelmed when it comes to your skin care routine? If you are anything like me, you probably have a cabinet full of products but only a handful that get used regularly. For me, the ones that get neglected most are the masks. So today I am going to share my top 3 tips for masking so you can dust off those products and show your skin some love.
1. Always exfoliate before you mask.
If you have ever had a treatment with me you will know my first step, after cleansing of course, is always to exfoliate. By exfoliating you help remove the outermost layer of the epidermis, the stratum corneum, which is made up of dead skin cells. By shedding this layer you prep the skin to better absorb the products you apply next, whether it is serums, oils, moisturizers or in this case, masks.
2. Massage your masks into your skin.
Rather than just allowing the mask to sit on the surface of the skin and then wiping it off, give yourself a little massage and penetrate those nourishing ingredients deep into the skin. Facial massage is really great, mask or no mask. It helps to increase circulation bringing blood flow and nutrients to the skin internally, helps with lymphatic drainage and when done over top of products or a mask it helps to penetrate the ingredients deeper into the skin.
3. Target your masking treatments.
It is quite common for your skin care needs to differ across your face. Maybe you are dealing with inflammation and blackouts along the jawline and neck but more congestion, blackheads, and whiteheads through the t-zone. If you are anything like me, you probably have a mask or 2…or 3…or 4 sitting around in your skin care collection. And chances are they are probably geared towards each of your skin concerns so why not target them all at once.
