Four Benefits of the Ketogenic Diet

What are some of the benefits of the Keto diet? Well, let’s break it down:

Get Ready to RUN CLEANER!

Putting it simply – ketones are a superior source of fuel. It creates a lot less of the messy chemical by-products that come when you are burning glucose as your primary source of fuel. The mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell – thank you biology class!) breaks down ketones more quickly than glucose. Glucose must first be broken down in the liver before it can be used by the mitochondria. This slows the whole process down and decreases efficiency. Ketones produce 20% more ATP on average than the same amount of glucose. This is a natural metabolic pathway that we can easily utilize with a little bit of planning and foresight.

One of the quickest things I see happen in my clients is that they very rapidly report an improvement in energy levels and a lack of cravings for all things carb-related. Frequent carbohydrate consumption can create a dangerous cycle of blood sugar imbalances and spiked insulin. The Keto diet encourages stable insulin levels by switching the body from a source of glucose to a source of ketones. As well, ketones are an extremely available source of energy for our brain and body. The result? Improved energy! People often feel so good on Keto that they are able to take steps to move towards tackling their bigger life goals. It’s truly remarkable to see.


Keeping blood sugar levels stable can result in lower overall levels of insulin in the body. This can assist in calming down fluctuating hormone levels, particularly in women. There have been promising studies on PCOS and reduced symptomology. My theory is as Keto becomes more and more popular, the amount of studies showing how good it can be will continue to grow exponentially. Let’s be honest. The number one reason people choose to adopt the Keto Challenge is weight loss. Initially, weight loss is brought on by finishing all of the stored up carbohydrates in your body, including the ones that are stored in your liver. These carbohydrates also cause additional water storage. In Ketosis, your liver will burn fats to create Ketones. This is unlike regular calorie restriction diets.
