We’ve already talked about what is getting in the way of your waking up from a refreshing sleep last month, now it’s time to bring your bedroom to the next level, creating your personal sleep haven.
Our brains need to connect our bedrooms with calm, happy thoughts so our instant response is relaxation. Anything getting in the way needs to go – TV, computer, work, clutter.
Make sure your mattress, bedding and the whole environment is comfortable and your bedroom will start to become a place you love entering.
Our sense of smell is strongly tied to emotion, making it very easy for us bring up good or bad emotions very quickly.
Find a scent you love, and subtly place it in your room. There are plenty of scents, such as lavender we know to have a calming effect. Walk into your haven, and instantly de-stress.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Putting the things we love – whether it be colour schemes, textures, or memories will help create a space that speaks to you.
Put up photos of loved ones, or trips that bring back good memories. Do you love throw pillows, and having a comfy bedspread? Whatever it is, make it yours.
A bedroom space which triggers our brains to relax, will help you feel more relaxed, helping you sleep faster and better, waking up refreshed.
[STEPS TO LIVE BETTER]
- Start thinking about what will help you make changes, and do one thing at a time. Pretty soon, your bedroom will be the sleep haven you’re looking for.
