Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)
What is BIA you ask? Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. What on earth does a BIA machine do? It measures body composition. That is % of body fat and body water thus allowing us to determine amounts of fat, muscle and water in the body. Lean body mass is very important for health. It includes muscle tissue and organ tissue and is highly metabolically active. Lean body mass may be lost during times of illness, wasting, weight loss programs and any other reason for weight changes. Our goal during these times is to preserve lean body mass. This can be accomplished by certain therapies and is aided in monitoring the effect of treatment through BIA.
- Weight loss programs
- Muscle wasting as seen in HIV or cancer
- Hormonal imbalances
- Any other condition resulting in weight changes
- Hydration status
BIA is an excellent way to monitor progress in wellness programs, such as changes in diet and lifestyle. We work closely with our clients to help them achieve positive changes in their life and their food intake.
If you couldn’t already tell, we’re pretty excited about our new piece of equipment. Come down and find out how getting a series of BIA measurements can help you along your health goals.
